Kristaps Porzingis injury: Celtics center leaves game

Kristaps Porzingis suffered a left eye injury in the opening moments of the Celtics matchup against the Pacers on Saturday night.

Boston’s starting center suffered the injury with 7:06 remaining in the first quarter after Aaron Nesmith poked Porzingis in the eye while fighting for a loose ball. Porzingis stayed down for several seconds after the inadvertent swipe and was subbed out of the game for Al Horford.

After getting some attention from Boston’s training staff including some eye drops, Porzingis returned to the game one minute later but only lasted for just under two minutes before being taken out. Boston declared him as questionable to return a short time later with left eye irritation and he did not return for the remainder of the first half.

Porzingis posted two points, three rebounds and a block in his six minutes of action before the injury. Boston managed to build a nine-point halftime lead without him.

Porzingis has played in 25 of 34 possible games for Boston this year entering Saturday’s game, missing a host of games due to ankle and calf issues. Boston is 7-2 in those contests. With Porzingis out, Luke Kornet and Oshae Brissett both saw minutes in his place while Al Horford took over the starting center spot.
