FACTS: Dolphins could be a part of history with win in Week 18

The pressure is on for the Miami Dolphins in Week 18. After a very fast start that saw the team jump out in the race for the AFC crown, a slow month has pushed the Dolphins into a bit of a weird spot in the final week of the season.

While Miami may already have a spot in the playoffs locked up already, the obvious focus is to beat the Bills and to win the division.

Assuming that happens, the Dolphins could at least do their part to make history with the other Florida NFL teams.

College Football might have a very bright history in the state of Florida, but the NFL is a different story. The Dolphins were great before the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Jacksonville Jaguars ever existed, the Bucs have two Super Bowl wins despite being poor for most of their franchise history, and the Jags have struggled for most of their history as well.

In all, the past few decades have been pretty rough for NFL teams in the state of Florida, with the exception of two Buccaneers Super Bowls.

However, all of that could be set to change, especially if all three teams take care of business this weekend.

Given the fact that all three teams lead their divisions currently and are going into their final game as the favorites, there is a real chance that Florida has three division champs for the first time ever.

Most fans may not care due to the fact that most don’t often root for in-state rivals, but this is an interesting sign of a shifting paradigm within the state and the NFL as Florida starts to mirror its dominance in college and high school football.

There are still a few dominos that need to fall before this is official, but it sure does look like this is where the signs are pointed as the weekend begins.
