Golden State Warriors guard Chris Paul suffered a fractured hand in Friday night’s win over the Detroit Pistons, and will be sidelined for the foreseeable future. Paul left Friday night’s game and did not return, and the Warriors announced after the game had ended that Paul has a fractured left hand.
The absence of Paul will have a significant impact on Golden State’s rotation. As Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told reporters after the game, the team will have to dip further into their backcourt depth with Paul sidelined, which could create an opportunity for Moses Moody, who has been out of the rotation for a few games.
Golden State’s rotation has been very inconsistent this season, not only due to injuries and the suspensions of Draymond Green, but due to Kerr searching for which combinations work best together. While Paul is not the player he was at the peak of his career, he had been starting to turn a corner for the Warriors, especially with his three-point shot.
Starting the season unable to knock down a shot from deep, Paul had been shooting the ball much better the last several games, which makes this injury even more unfortunate for the Warriors guard.
Believing they have the depth to sustain this injury to Paul, the Warriors will of course miss him, but will maintain a next man up mentality.
