Harry Kewell Set to Sign Celtic Defender

This January, it seems as though numerous Celtic outcasts will be departing the club. Brendan Rodgers’ squad is undoubtedly bloated, and room needs to be made for new arrivals.

Centre-back is an area of the team that is particularly crowded. Cameron Carter-Vickers is the first choice, meanwhile, few would have expected the rise of Liam Scales.

Stephen Welsh is a dependable deputy and Maik Nawrocki has shown over the past few games that he too can contribute. Although he may be set for a departure soon, Gustaf Lagerbielke has also displayed signs of promise, scoring off the bench to fire Celtic to their first home Champions League win in over a decade.

Behind all of these players in the pecking order, though, is Yuki Kobayashi. Brought in from Vissel Kobe last January, the 23-year-old has failed to nail down a place in the team having made just seven appearances for the Hoops to date.

He is set for a January exit and according to the Daily Mail, he will join up with former Celtic coach Harry Kewell at Yokohama F. Marinos. The Aussie was recently appointed manager of the club, and it looks as though one of his first signings will come from his old team.

For the Hoops, getting yet another player off the wage bill in January will be a relief. Room needs to be made for new arrivals, and the departure of Kobayashi would help contribute towards this.
