Tottenham Hotspur are looking to improve their squad during the January transfer window and the central defence is an area they are looking to strengthen.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Tottenham are keen on signing the Genoa defender Rad Dragusin this month.
The 21-year-old has impressed with his performances in the Italian league and Napoli are keen on securing his services as well.
However, Di Marzio claims that Spurs are ‘in pole position’ to sign the player, but they have not been able to secure an agreement with his club yet. The defender is valued at €35 million and Tottenham have submitted a ‘verbal offer’ to sign him worth around €22-23 million.
It will be interesting to see if the two clubs can work out their differences in the next few days and get the transfer done.
It is no secret that Tottenham need defensive reinforcements if they want to finish the season strongly and secure UEFA Champions League qualification.
Star defenders Cristian Romero and Micky Di Marzio are currently sidelined with injuries and the Londoners have been quite vulnerable defensively, conceding nine goals in the last six outings across all competitions.
They will need to tighten up defensively in order to do well in the coming months. Dragusin would certainly help them improve and the 21-year-old has the attributes to develop into a top class Premier League defender.
Even if Tottenham have to pay a premium for him now, he could justify the investment in the long run.
