Celtic and Brendan Rodgers sent an exciting transfer message….

John Hartson thinks ‘at least three’ players will be on the radar of Celtic during the January transfer window.

Brendan Rodgers watched his team outclass St Mirren on Wednesday, days after beating Rangers in the Glasgow derby.

For weeks now, the Celtic boss has been talking about adding quality to the squad and wanting to take the team to the next level.

Of course, all of this was highlighted even further when the team went through that worrying blip of back-to-back defeats.

But now things are looking far better and the waters are much calmer with the January transfer window open and ready for service.

Celtic will be busy, with both incomings and outgoings expected, it’s just a case of how much action the powers that be will be involved in.

John Hartson dropped an exciting message on Twitter and how a fair few could be coming through the door this month after the win at St Mirren.

“Another good win for the Hoops,” said Hartson. “Looked like a very comfortable night.

“BR (Brendan Rodgers) talked lots about bringing in quality to add to the group. they must have at least 3 on the radar.”

What areas need targeting?

This is the million-dollar question. A striker? A centre-back? Or someone to come into midfield?

With Kyogo Furuhashi set to stay after being left out of Japan’s Asian Cup squad, that’s less of a headache for Rodgers.

And whilst another forward player could come in, is he really going to dethrone the class of Kyogo?

A couple of weeks ago many would have said midfield, perhaps a number six could be looked at, but with Reo Hatate back from injury, Callum McGregor an ever-present, Matt O’Riley the best player in Scotland and Paulo Bernardo now starting to showcase his worth.

Then this isn’t an area of panic like it would have been a while back.

As for the centre-backs, a lot of money was spent in this area in the summer, yet it’s Liam Scales of all people showcasing how it’s done.

Gustaf Lagerbielke’s time at the club could already be up, but Maik Nawrocki has looked really promising of late, so he deserves more chances.

Either way, proven quality and players who would smash through the starting XI straightaway need to be brought in, nothing less.
