Leeds United are likely to be busy in terms of both incomings and outgoings in the January window and the club have now made their first decision of the month – and it is without doubt, the right one.
Daniel Farke wants a left-back, while a no.10 is likely to be targeted after failing to sign one in the prior window despite moves for Nadiem Amiri and Matt O’Riley. Others could leave, and will need replacing.
But nothing in terms of incomings and outgoings have been done as the third day of the window comes and goes. However, we have made their first decision of the window – and it is regarding Sonny Perkins.
Perkins, 19, joined League One side Oxford United in the summer – after a year at Elland Road in which he won four senior appearances for Leeds, and played 24 times for our second string. Scoring 13 times.
He got a goal at senior level, too. A last-minute equaliser in The FA Cup, in a 2-2 draw away at Cardiff. But he has struggled at Oxford, managing just six games for the third-tier side – scoring only one goal.
Leeds recalling Sonny Perkins from Oxford is the right decision
Leeds have made the decision to recall Perkins – with the club confirming as much on Twitter today. It means Perkins has to remain at Leeds for the rest of 23-24, or go back to Oxford before January ends.
That is because Perkins played for Leeds earlier this season, coming on as a late sub in the 2-2 draw against Cardiff. Players cannot play for more than two clubs in one term. Oxford, or us for Perkins, then.
But even then, it is the right decision to bring Perkins back. He was not getting game time. At least now, he can play in Premier League 2 for the 21’s and restore some confidence, scoring goals for Leeds.
