Even with RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley gone, the New York Knicks appear to have enough assets left for another headline trade.
The New York Knicks finally made a potentially seismic deal by acquiring former Toronto Raptor OG Anunoby over the weekend. Many believe, however, that New York isn’t done dealing.
With that in mind, it’s worth looking at the assets left over in the aftermath of the deal that sent RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley to Ontario. SNY’s Ian Begley did just that in his latest, hinting that the Knicks are still well-stocked if they’re looking to make another deal.
“New York has eight tradable first-round picks, including four of its own,” Begley writes. “The four picks from other teams are protected. “As far as players, Evan Fournier (expiring $18 million deal), Julius Randle, Quentin Grimes, Donte DiVincenzo, Mitchell Robinson, Jericho Sims and Isaiah Hartenstein are all trade-eligible.”
Despite losing two of their biggest assets in the trade for Anunoby (as well as Precious Achiuwa and Malachi Flynn), the Knicks still have plenty of valuable pieces to make a potential gamechanging deal.
In the meantime, the Knicks (18-15) will look to make progress on the Eastern Conference leaderboard. They currently sit in eighth place, the second spot in the East’s Play-In Tournament, a half-game behind Cleveland for the sixth and final automatic spot.
Anunoby’s first game as a Knick worked out well, as New York treated Madison Square Garden fans to a 112-106 victory over the Western Conference-leading Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday afternoon. The headlining newcomer had 17 points and six rebounds in 35 minutes of action before fouling out.
Game two of the Anunoby era tips off on Wednesday night when the Knicks face the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night at MSG (8:30 p.m. ET, MSG/ABC).
