Newcastle United could be set to face even more competition if they decide to firm up their interest in Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips this month.
The Magpies are one of several clubs to be linked to the England star, who looks set to leave the Premier League champions in the coming weeks.
While there has been talk of an initial loan deal – likely to cost around £7.5m – any move is thought to include a future buy-on clause, which is causing some clubs to rethink their options. Juventus are believed to be keen, while Paris Saint-Germain are the latest European side said to be considering a move.
And now Premier League sides Fulham and Crystal Palace have been linked with a bid for the 28-year-old, who has found first-team football hard to come by at City following his move from Leeds United.
Northampton Town are keen to extend Newcastle United youngster Max Thompson’s loan deal at the club. The goalkeeper signed the 19-year-old on loan in the summer and he has made 20 appearances for the Cobblers this season in all competition.
Thompson has helped Northampton reach ninth in League One, and manager Jon Brady is hoping to come to an agreement with Newcastle over his short-term future. He is due to return to Tyneside this month, but Brady is keen to keep him at the Sixfields Stadium.
