Newcastle could be forced to sell star player

Newcastle face being forced to cash in on one of their crown jewels to raise funds for summer signings.

Since their Saudi Arabia takeover, the Magpies have been very careful to make sure they do not breach Financial Fair Play [FFP] rules and invite any unwanted scrutiny.

Not only will this make it difficult for manager Eddie Howe to replenish his injury-hit squad in this transfer window, with Newcastle United mainly scouring the loan market for reinforcements, but also means they are potentially facing a big decision come the end of the season.

Midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, who has a £100million release clause in his contract, defender Sven Botman and striker Alexander Isak are the club’s most sellable assets at St James’ Park and none would be short of suitors not just in the Premier League but among Europe’s elite clubs.

It may be that Newcastle have to follow Aston Villa’s example when they cashed in on Jack Grealish to fund the squad rebuild that has turned Unai Emery’s men into surprise challengers at the top of the table.

Strike while the Iron’s hot

High-flying West Ham United could reignite their interest in Wolves captain Max Kilman.

Manager David Moyes is a long-term admirer of Kilman, 26, who was on the Hammers’ list of potential targets when they received their £105m Declan Rice windfall in the summer.

Londoner Kilman only signed a new five-year deal at Molineux in August after Wolves rejected a £30m offer from Italian champions Napoli.

Wolves are not expecting to sell star centre-back Kilman this month, but remain under strict financial restrictions to stay on the right side of Premier League Profit and Sustainability rules.

Kilman has played 109 league games for Wolves since joining from non-league Maidenhead.
