‘People are shocked’… £19m Tottenham player has left staff at Spurs stunned recently

That’s according to Football London journalist Alasdair Gold, who has been speaking about Rodrigo Bentancur’s miraculous recovery.Bentancur returned to the starting XI as Tottenham beat Bournemouth 3-1 on Sunday. The 26-year-old was originally expected to be sidelined until February after suffering ankle ligament damage following a heavy challenge from Matty Cash back in November.

It was a huge blow for Bentancur at the time as he picked up the injury while making his first start for the club in nine months.

The Uruguay international hasn’t had the best of luck when it comes to his fitness over the past year after also suffering an ACL injury back in February.

He earned praise from Ange Postecoglou after Sunday’s win over Bournemouth, where he featured for 60 minutes before being replaced by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

And it seems that his quick return from injury even left staff at Tottenham surprised.

Tottenham staff shocked by Bentancur’s recovery

Speaking in his latest YouTube video, Gold shared what people at Tottenham have been saying about Bentancur’s surprise return.

“He spent all of last week training with the first team and I’ve spoken to lots of people within the club and honestly, people are shocked in the club,” the journalist said.

“It’s taken them by surprise as well. People weren’t expecting him back anywhere near now, probably a month or so people were expecting him [back].”

Bentancur’s return couldn’t have come at a better time for Spurs as Postecoglou bids to guide his side through a difficult period.

Tottenham have won four out of their last five league games, despite the fact that Postecoglou’s squad has been ravaged by injuries and suspensions.

Yves Bissouma has missed the last two games after being sent off in the 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest last month. The Mali midfielder will also head to AFCON 2024 this month, alongside Senegalese star Pape Matar Sarr.

Having Bentancur back ahead of schedule is a timely boost for Postecoglou as he will be short of options in midfield for a few weeks.
