Zach LaVine Assigned to Windy City Bulls Why Must it be so?

For over a month, Zach LaVine has been sidelined due to right foot inflammation . During that time, the Chicago Bulls tried to shop LaVine, who has been the subject of several trade rumors. However, the Bulls haven’t been able to find a trade partner. With LaVine nearing a return to action and no alternative option in sight, the Bulls got him some practice reps by assigning him to the Windy City Bulls of the G League on Monday.

This roster move allows LaVine to practice non-controlled contact scenarios, according to K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago. Meanwhile, the Bulls are set to embark on a two-game road trip that includes stops in Philadelphia and New York.

When LaVine returns, he’ll have to learn how to handle a new role. In his absence, the Bulls have exhibited a free-flowing offense that has been exciting to watch. LaVine’s isolation-centric play will need to take a backseat for the Bulls to be successful.

The Bulls’ initial plan was to build around LaVine. For him to come back because his trade value is low shouldn’t inhibit the Bulls from primarily focusing on developing their key young players in Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu, Patrick Williams, Dalen Terry, and Julian Phillips. LaVine can still be moved, especially in the offseason when many pieces are shuffling around the NBA.
