What has started for the Chicago Bears as a rough year and a likely ability to own both the number one and number two picks of the upcoming draft, has turned around as of late. Despite pundits and media talking heads anticipating for certain that a new quarterback would be starting in Chicago next year, fans voiced their approval of the current signal caller.
Chicago Bears Resounding Endorsement
After the 37-17 win over the Atlanta Falcons, the Chicago Bears fans could be heard showering Justin Field with ovations of “We want Fields!”And while he came into the season looking limited and overwhelmed with the speed of NFL play, as of late he is answering his critics.
With a fanbase that understands the limitations that have come both organizationally and from the supporting class, if the Chicago Bears were to elect to solidify other aspects of their organization, it would appear that not everyone would be disappointed.
Chicago Bears Season To Date
After an 0-4 start the Chicago Bears were facing the prospect of another potentially devastating season. Yet after their win against the Washington Commanders, the Chicago Bears have gone on to go 6-5 the rest of the way.
And it is this renewed life that has some Chicago Bears fans optimistic about bringing back Justin Fields. This would mean upgrading other areas of need while seeing if Fields can flourish with a better supporting cast around him. With two possible top-ten picks, and a heavy emphasis and perhaps overvaluing of quarterbacks in the draft, the Chicago Bears could be in a prime spot to acquire top talent at non-quarterback positions.
This would pose an interesting question. Is it better to upgrade at other areas first, to give Fields a second chance? If things don’t work out college football appears to be supplying the NFL with ready-made quarterbacks every year.
However with the prospect of having Caleb Williams or Drake Maye, many consider this QB draft class to be too talented to pass up.
If The Chicago Bears Decide To Stick With Fields
There are several intriguing options should the Bears elect to draft a non-QB.
The most obvious is that of Marvin Harrison Jr., one of the most explosive wide receiving options in college football, the Ohio State product will give any team instant stability and big play opportunities for their offense.
Another option could be to sure up the offensive line. Either Olu Fashanu from Penn State or Joe Alt from Notre Dame would be good options to solidify the interior.
To add to both the blocking and receiving aspect, tight end Brock Bowers from Georgia could be added to be a potential security blanket for Fields.
Some mock drafts even have the Chicago Bears during up their defense with the later pick, opting for edge rusher Dallas Turner from Alabama, or defensive lineman Jer’Zhan Newton out of Illinois.
Either way, the Bears are going to be positioned from a place of leverage and control during the upcoming 2024 draft. It is unknown the direction that they will take for now. But with two early first-round picks, the odds are in favor of at least one (possibly two) instant-impact rookies joining the Bears next year.
