The Dallas Mavericks announced the signing of guard Brandon Williams on Thursday. Dallas signed Williams, who is joining the team from the G League’s Osceola MagicMAGIC -7.4%, to a two-way contract.
Williams, 24, went undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft. Most recently, he appeared in 14 games for the Magic at the 2023 Showcase Cup, averaging 22.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.6 steals in 31.9 minutes per game.
After going undrafted, he signed with the Westchester Knicks of the G League before signing a 10-day contract with the Portland Trail Blazers. The Blazers later signed him to a two-way deal for the remainder of the 2021-22 season. He averaged 12.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.0 steals in 26.7 minutes.
Last season, Williams played with the College Park Skyhawks in the G League. He played in 28 games, starting 26, and averaged 19.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.2 steals in 31.7 minutes. In 40 career regular-season G League games with Westchester and College Park, he averaged 20.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.1 steals in 32.1 minutes.
NBA teams can carry three players on two-way contracts in addition to the 15 players on the regular season roster. Players who sign two-way deals earn $559,782, half the NBA rookie minimum, and are eligible to be active for up to 50 of their team’s 82 regular season games.
To make room for Williams, the Mavericks waived guard Dexter Dennis, who was also on a two-way contract. The rookie appeared in four games with Dallas, averaging 5.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 7.5 minutes. The former Texas A&M Aggie also started 13 games for the Texas Legends, the Mavericks’ G League affiliate. He averaged 15.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 35.8 minutes with the Legends.
