Sasa Lukic was linked with a move to Leeds United at the start of the year and were even reportedly on pole position for the Serbian star – and now, Fulham are willing to loan out the star next month.
Lukic, 27, joined Fulham for a fee of £9m in January 2023 after starring in Serie A with Torino, playing a huge 168 times for the top-tier outfit. Lukic also impressed in Qatar at the World Cup, for his country.
Fulham were not the only Premier League club interested, at the time. Leeds were also keen on a move for the midfielder, and said to be on pole for Lukic. However, we ended up signing Weston McKennie.
But at Fulham, he has not been able to make it work. Just 25 games in all competitions for Fulham since his move, starting only eight of his 23 outings in the Premier League. He is struggling for game time.
Now, an update. Football Transfers say that despite the doubts surrounding the future of Joao Palhinha, Lukic is available for a loan move in the winter window. Leeds could be allowed to get their man, after all
Leeds wanted midfielder Sasa Lukic; Now he is available on loan
Do Leeds need him? Well, the Whites have Glen Kamara, Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev in the middle of the park. Archie Gray, too. But, he has been playing on the right of defence, under boss Daniel Farke.
Leeds could do with more of an attacking midfield and while Lukic is best in holding midfield, his vision and technical ability makes him a deep-lying playmaker. That may be just what we need in the middle.
But the preference will be to sign a left-back and a no.10 in January, with loans likely to be the order of the day. That of course, unless someone makes a big-money move for one of our prized assets.
