Did Miller Moss change opinions surrounding Caleb Williams After 2023 Holiday Bowl?

USC Trojans: Did Miller Moss change opinions surrounding Caleb Williams After 2023 Holiday Bowl?

The USC Trojans were able to pick up a 42-28 victory over the 15th-ranked Louisville Cardinals but the story was with quarterback Miller Moss and his dominant performance. Moss had an unforgettable game in the first game of the post-Caleb Williams era for the Trojans as he finished 23-of-33 for 372 yards with six passing touchdowns to one interception.

The six touchdown passes set the Holiday Bowl record for passing touchdowns in a single game. It was not just social media that was impressed with the production that Miller Moss had in this game as coach Lincoln Riley also commented about his performance after the game.“He was really dialed in, he trusted his guys, he got the ball out on time, it was just – it was a tremendous quarterbacking performance.”

However, there is an intriguing position that some people are taking. Did Miller Moss’ performance change the way that we should view Caleb Williams?

Did Miller Moss prove that Caleb Williams is overhyped?

Do not be surprised to see this question actually being broached by mainstream media over the next few days. While it is something to say that Lincoln Riley and the USC Trojans have an amazing offensive scheme for a quarterback to thrive, saying Caleb Williams is a system quarterback is too farfetched.

There is no need to take down Williams in an attempt to elevate Moss. Personally, I’d love to see more out of him before we can jump to that conclusion. Heading into this game, he played three seasons as a backup quarterback for the Trojans as he went 43-of-59 (72.9 completion percentage) for 542 yards with three passing touchdowns as well as eight rushing for 14 yards (1.8 yards per attempt) with a pair of rushing touchdowns.

Caleb Williams has proven the ability to be a successful quarterback as he won the Heisman Trophy a year ago. We have seen glimpses of greatness for Miller Moss but he needs to do this a lot longer than a bowl game against a Louisville team that had some key players not play as they were in the NCAA Transfer Portal and this game result did not mean too much for some players.
