Celtic were denied what appeared to be a stone-wall penalty at Dens Park in their 3-0 Boxing Day triumph. Dundee goalkeeper Trevor Carson man-handled Cameron Carter-Vickers on the goalline.
Referee Don Robertson waved the incident away, but what was most concerning was that VAR didn’t even review it:
VAR was brought in to prevent ‘clear and obvious’ refereeing errors in Scotland. Robertson undoubtedly made a mistake not penalising Carson for almost putting his opponent in a headlock. It should have been looked at.
It worryingly wasn’t, however. Thankfully for the Hoops, the poor decision didn’t have an overall impact on proceedings.
The Bhoys put in a dominative performance, with Paulo Bernardo and Mikey Johnston both getting on the scoresheet. The victory sent the champions five points clear at the top of the table for Boxing night, with Brendan Rodgers travelling back home to Glasgow a happy man.
All focus now turns to Saturday and the second Glasgow derby of the season. Win, and Celtic will put themselves in a hugely prosperous position going into the second half of the campaign.
