Ann Wilson, the iconic lead singer of the rock band Heart, has been diagnosed with cancer, leading to the postponement of the band’s remaining Royal Flush Tour dates. Wilson, 74, recently underwent surgery to remove a cancerous growth and is now preparing for preventive chemotherapy.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Wilson shared, “I recently underwent an operation to remove something that, as it turns out, was cancerous. The operation was successful and I’m feeling great, but my doctors are now advising me to undergo a course of preventive chemotherapy and I’ve decided to do it.”
As a result, Heart has postponed over 50 shows across North America, with plans to reschedule them for 2025. The affected concerts were set to feature performances from Def Leppard and Journey, though it’s currently unclear if these bands will join Heart for the rescheduled dates.
Wilson expressed her regret over the postponements, stating, “To the ticket buyers, I really do wish we could do these gigs. Please know that I absolutely plan to be back on stage in 2025. My team is getting those details sorted and we’ll let you know the plan as soon as we can.”
All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the rescheduled dates, with further information to be announced in the coming weeks.
This isn’t the first health-related interruption for Heart’s tour plans this year. In May, the band canceled the European leg of their tour due to what was then described as a “time-sensitive but routine procedure” for Wilson. At that time, she reassured fans via Instagram, stating, “I’m okay! Please don’t worry. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. It’s certainly an inconvenience for me.”
Heart, formed in the 1970s by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson, is renowned for hits like “Magic Man,” “Crazy on You,” and “Alone.” The band was honored with a lifetime achievement award from the Recording Academy in 2023.
Wilson concluded her statement with a message of hope and determination: “This is merely a pause. I’ve much more to sing.” She also respectfully requested privacy, stating, “Respectfully, this is the last public statement I’d like to make on the matter.”
Fans and fellow musicians have expressed their support for Wilson during this challenging time, eagerly awaiting her return to the stage in 2025.
