Robert Woods open to re-signing with Texans, playing in ‘high-powered’ new offense
Houston Texans wide receiver Robert Woods has expressed a strong interest in continuing his tenure with the team as he approaches his 13th NFL season. In a recent interview with Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston, Woods reflected on his time in Houston and his enthusiasm for the team’s future offensive prospects.
“Feeling good, kind of getting ready to revamp and go another year again,” Woods shared. “Building the body back up, just like always and going into Year 13 and still just chasing it. I had a great time here in Houston, loved being with C.J. [Stroud], a great quarterback, loved our receiver room, our coaches. We’ll see how it goes in free agency. You know how free agency is. Whatever is best for me and my family and my football career. If that’s in Houston, however it goes, we’ll look to that.”
Woods’ optimism is bolstered by the anticipated implementation of a new offensive scheme under offensive coordinator Nick Caley. Drawing from his experience with the Los Angeles Rams, Woods is familiar with the high-powered offense that Caley aims to introduce in Houston. This system emphasizes versatility and dynamic play-calling, elements that Woods believes can elevate the Texans’ offensive performance.
“I think that offense is capable of being high-powered,” Woods noted, expressing confidence in quarterback C.J. Stroud’s ability to lead the unit effectively.
During the 2024 season, Woods’ role evolved to include responsibilities beyond receiving, such as blocking and punt returning. Despite recording a career-low 20 receptions for 203 yards, his adaptability and leadership were invaluable to the team. As he enters free agency, Woods remains open-minded, prioritizing the best fit for his family and career, with a return to Houston being a strong consideration.
The Texans’ receiving corps faces uncertainty, particularly with Stefon Diggs’ free agency status and Tank Dell’s recovery from a knee injury. Woods’ potential return could provide stability and veteran leadership to the group. His familiarity with the incoming offensive system and rapport with teammates position him as a valuable asset for the Texans as they aim to enhance their offensive capabilities in the upcoming season.
