English shares what he’s seen from Celtic that’s ‘weird’ this season

Celtic’s 1-1 draw with Motherwell has been offset by Rangers’ draw at Aberdeen after the Ibrox side were awarded their sixth penalty in four weeks.

However, what the Ibrox club is more effective at is converting the chances they get from the spot kicks that are awarded and that is something that BBC pundit and journalist, Tom English, finds ‘poor’ from the Parkhead club.

English said [BBC Sportsound], “They’ve only got 62.5% conversion rate from the penalties this season. I mean, that’s weird. The quality of players that they have.

“Yang should have scored. I mean they should have won this game.

“It’s poor. I mean that’s Yang, Turnbull, and Hatate who have all missed penalties this season in the league. So, it’s poor.”

Brendan Rodgers rues another missed Celtic penalty

The Celtic manager had already addressed Celtic’s poor penalty record prior to the missed Palma conversion yesterday.

And Rodgers wasn’t happy with yet another opportunity from a spot kick squandered. Rodgers said [Sky Sports], “We got two penalties and those decisive moments in the game you’ve got to win those and sadly for us we missed a penalty and conceded from a corner.”

Penalty taking is definitely an area of concern for Celtic and Rodgers needs to address it before it costs his more points or, worse, the league title should they continue to fail to capitalise on an a free hit from 12 yards.

But for the Celtic manager, he will be delighted that his team haven’t lost any ground gained in the league after Rangers dropped points at Pittodrie in their 1-1 draw with Aberdeen this afternoon.

Next up for Rodgers is the Champions League where he will be hoping his side can go to Rome to pick three vital points against Lazio to keep their hopes of dropping into the Europa League alive.
