Steve Mensch, the President and General Manager of Tyler Perry Studios, tragically passed away on December 6, 2024, following a single-engine plane crash in Homosassa, Florida. The 62-year-old studio executive was piloting a Vans RV-12IS aircraft when it crashed near the intersection of US-98 and US-19. Local authorities and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the incident, but the cause of the crash remains unclear.

 

Mensch was a pivotal figure in the entertainment industry, having served as President of Tyler Perry Studios since 2016. Under his leadership, the Atlanta-based studio expanded significantly, becoming a cornerstone of Georgia’s film and television production sector. The studio is renowned for producing Tyler Perry’s iconic “Madea” films and other notable projects such as A Fall from Grace and All the Queen’s Men.

 

Beyond his contributions to the studio, Mensch held roles in various entertainment organizations. He served as chairman of the Georgia Screen Entertainment Coalition and was a member of the Governor’s Advisory Committee on Film, Music, and Digital Entertainment. His extensive career included leadership positions at Third Rail Studios and Turner Broadcasting, among others.

 

Tyler Perry Studios issued a statement expressing their devastation over Mensch’s passing, highlighting his dedication and influence in both the business and creative aspects of the industry. Mensch is survived by his wife and three children, who now mourn the loss of a beloved husband and father.

 

The entertainment community has also expressed its condolences, reflecting on Mensch’s lasting impact on film and television production. His vision and leadership will be deeply missed in an industry he helped shaped.
