Wayne Rooney reacts to Leicester City defeat

Stephy Mavididi finished off a lightning Foxes counterattack inside 10 minutes before Birmingham City’s Welshman finished off a slick move to level the contest. Leicester’s top scorer, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, restored their advantage, rounding John Ruddy and finishing into an empty net.

Their third came through Mavididi five minutes into the second-half, with James getting his brace to reduce the deficit, but the visitors held on to secure the win.

Speaking to BluesTV post-match, the Manager was pleased with the efforts of his team in pushing the Sky Bet Championship leaders all the way.

“You are always disappointed when you lose, but I thought there were some really good signs, especially against a very good team. There is a reason they are top of the league. I thought for the first 30 minutes we were excellent, but a little bit naive with the goals we conceded.

“Their added quality showed in the second-half, but I was pleased that we kept going and kept working. The players were against a difficult team, so we knew they would have opportunities.

“I didn’t want the team to show them too much respect tonight. I wanted to be aggressive and make it difficult for them. We created chances and caused them problems at times. Second-half we didn’t start well, but we kept pushing.

“We have to move on now, we have a lot of games coming up over this Christmas period, which is great, and I can’t wait for those games.”
