According to Spot Model, Hasegawa is set to release a plastic model of Wayne Rainey’s 1989 Lucky Strike Yamaha 500cc bike, as raced in the ’89 Japanese Grand Prix. That’s the race Rainey didn’t win, because of a pit board snafu he had to use Suzuka’s scoring tower to keep track of what lap he was on and didn’t relaize the tower was actually a lap down.
Many enthusiasts believe this was one of the most striking Yamaha race bikes to ever tackle the Spoon Curve.
Hasegawa, known for its period-perfect recreations of racing motorcycles, is a strong competitor to Tamiya in this niche market. Look at the old “block-style” AP calipers up front and see for yourself.
