Leeds transfer news as first contact made for Akturkoglu

Leeds United are interested in signing Galatasaray attacker Kerem Akturkoglu in the January transfer window, according to Fanatik.

The Turkish outlet reported on its website on Sunday (17 December) that Galatasary has received plenty of attention from clubs both in England and Italy for the 25-year-old, with Leeds and Lazio named as potential suitors in January.

Over the last two weeks, English and Italian clubs have frequently contacted the winger’s agent and as a matter of precaution, the Turkish giants have already planned to ward off interest when the transfer window opens in the new year.

Supposedly, Galatasary have already told Aktukoglu that he won’t be allowed to leave in January and they will instead consider offers from other clubs in the summer following the end of the season.

Another attacker

Akturkoglu is a very talented player and has been in impressive form so far this season, scoring four goals and picking up another five assists in 15 Turkish Super Lig matches so it is understandable that teams such as Leeds United are interested in securing his services.

The 25-year-old even managed to score twice in the Champions League group stages, including a goal in the 3-3 draw with Manchester United so he would be a real coup for the Whites if they were able to pick him up when the transfer window opens.

However, Galatasaray’s reluctance to sell the winger would likely make this an incredibly expensive deal to complete in January and it seems unlikely that Leeds would be unable to outbid the Italian giants given their heavy spending in the summer.

If the Whites do look to strengthen midway through the season, it feels as though they would be better off recruiting elsewhere on the pitch than signing more wingers. There is already plenty of depth out wide at Elland Road and Daniel Farke could do with more options at full-back instead.

Maybe we’ll be wrong and Leeds will get this one over the line, but it feels more likely that this could be one completed in the summer.
