The Dallas Mavericks are coming off a 131-120 win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday night and are sitting at 16-9.
Despite the continuous doubts and disrespect from the national media, Dallas has considerably outplayed expectations and has been a top team in the Western Conference.
Even with their great start, Dallas has some holes on their roster that need addressing. The Mavericks have not had a great defense, and their rebounding has also been an issue.
Perfect young big just became available for Mavericks to sign
Dallas has also been extremely banged up over the last few weeks, and with a toe injury to Maxi Kleber and an injury to Dereck Lively II’s ankle, the Mavericks’ frontcourt is running thin.
With injuries to both Lively II and Kleber along with Richaun Holmes and Dwight Powell’s inconsistent play, the Mavs need someone who can play consistent minutes for this team.
And a great fit may have just become available.
The Memphis Grizzlies are reportedly going to waive Kenneth Lofton Jr. and he would be someone who could play consistent minutes for this team at the power forward spot.
This season for Memphis, Lofton Jr. is averaging 2.6 points, 1.0 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game while shooting 37.8 percent from the field. His numbers are down from last year, but he could at least intrigue the Mavs.
Lofton Jr. is a dominant low-post scorer and is still only 21 years old. His defense in space may not be excellent and he isn’t a rim protector, but his defense in the post could intrigue the Mavs. Standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing 275 pounds, Lofton Jr. isn’t easily moved down low.
He would be someone that Dallas can throw into the mix when they need some low post defense, and he could provide a scoring spark off the bench as well. Lofton Jr. wouldn’t play heavy minutes for Dallas if they decide to sign him, but signing him to help bolster the Mavs frontcourt while Kleber and Lively II recover from injuries wouldn’t be the worst idea.
For all the latest on the Dallas Mavericks, stay tuned.
