Celtic transfer target displaces Chelsea loanee in Madrid Starting XI

Reported Celtic goalkeeping target Andriy Lunin started once again for Real Madrid in this evening’s 4-1 win over Villarreal.

The Ukrainian stopper had been deputising for Thibaut Courtois before the Belgian goalie suffered an ACL injury. Now, Lunin has beaten off competition and is playing regularly for Carlo Ancelotti’s team.

Lunin, 24, has made 25 appearances for Madrid and had been hoping that Courtois’ injury would’ve opened the door for more game time before the arrival of Kepa from Chelsea. Although, now Lunin has dislodged Kepa to start for Madrid.

Back in October, Celtic were reportedly considering a move for the Madrid goalie with a view to a summer transfer. The goalkeeper was then set to reject a new contract due to lack of game time.

Hart, 36, has been excellent since joining Celtic from Tottenham Hotspur in 2021. Now into his third season, Hart has been coy on future plans insisting that he is going to enjoy his football without worrying about the future. Whilst he adds experience, the club will need to be mindful that he isn’t getting younger.

Celtic have also been linked with Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher but Jurgen Klopp has insisted he wants the Irishman to remain at Anfield. Brendan Rodgers will want a few new arrivals to the club in the January window and you would imagine that a goalkeeper would actually be low down on the list, given priorities in attack.
