Lakers: Smith Believes This LA Star Is Playing Like An MVP

Could the Lakers add another MVP trophy to their historic franchise?

Lakers star LeBron James has been a lot of things throughout his long career. Not only is he a legend on the court, but he has been incredible off it as well with his philanthropic nature. It’s what has made him one of the most popular players in sports history.

It’s been awesome to see throughout his career, but James is still going strong. Despite being in year 21 in the NBA, he remains one of the best players in the league today.

Somewhat, James hasn’t slowed down by much, and he really is giving Father Time a run for his money, or at least extending his time. James has been instrumental in helping the Lakers stay afloat this season while they’ve dealt with many injuries.

Long-time NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith believes that James has been playing like an MVP this season. He said that if James were to win the award, there would be some things that he would need to think about.

He has played in 24 games this season, averaging 25.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and seven assists per game. James is also shooting an incredible 40.1 percent from beyond the three-point line.

While there may be some players around the NBA who are putting up better numbers, nobody is more valuable to their team. Plus, the level that he is playing at right now is insane. He is 38 years old and has looked better than most other players in the league.

He is doing things that nobody ever thought were possible, and his value speaks for itself. James will likely not win the MVP award unless the Lakers earn a top seed in the Western Conference. But the mere fact that he is being mentioned in the conversation, shows exactly how legendary of a player he truly is.
