Blues manager Rooney and Leicester striker Vardy played alongside each other for England, but in recent years they have shared courtrooms rather than football pitches. A very public legal case between the pair’s wives – dubbed Wagatha Christie by the media – played out in 2022 after Coleen Rooney alleged Rebekah Vardy had leaked stories about her private life to the press. Vardy subsequently filed a libel lawsuit against Rooney and lost.
Wayne Rooney will be in the dugout on Monday night, but Jamie Vardy isn’t expected to be in Leicester’s line-up. The veteran striker has missed the Foxes’ last two games due to injury. Blues’ defenders will still be doing their homework on Vardy in case he makes a recovery.
“The game is Birmingham City against Leicester,” said Rooney. “In my opinion, Jamie Vardy is a fantastic player and has been for many years. He’s a great servant to Leicester and he’s a player we have to do a lot of work on to stop. He can really hurt you if you don’t.
“I played with him for England. I played with many players for England. It’s not someone who I have ever had a relationship with outside of being away from a training camp or games. I respect Jamie Vardy a lot, he’s a fantastic player and still has a lot to offer Leicester.
