Mowbray broke his silence regarding his Sunderland exit

The 60-year-old’s dismissal as manager of the Wearside outfit earlier this month came as a surprise to many in the football world.

He led the team to a sixth place finish in its first year back in the Championship in the previous campaign, and had the team competing for another play-off place this term.

But a poor run of form that saw the club win just two of Mowbray’s last nine games in charge led to the decision to part ways.

The experienced manager wrote a heartfelt statement in which he shared his admiration for the club and the 15 months he spent as manager.

However, one aspect of his goodbye to Sunderland will have perked the ears of Stoke City supporters.

Mowbray’s lengthy statement left an encouraging note for Potters fans who may be hoping the club looks to appoint him as a replacement for the departed Alex Neil.
