Draymond Green is one of the biggest talking points in the NBA world this week after a punch on Jusuf Nurkic got Green suspended indefinitely. Draymond is going through a larger issue that’s causing him to have such violent outbursts on the court, as evidenced by his chokehold on Rudy Gobert earlier this season.
Green spoke to Ramona Shelbourne of ESPN and has gotten real on what went through his mind when the Gobert incident took place
“When I watched it back, I said, ‘Damn, I held him much longer than I realized in that moment. But the reality is, in those moments, you don’t know what time is. You don’t have a sense of time. I had no clue. You don’t have a sense of time during these things. It’s the spur of the moment. Everything’s moving, everything’s going.”
Some people are already saying that Green might be coming off as disingenuous due to everyone knowing that he doesn’t like Gobert. He’s proudly said he doesn’t regret the incident after it happened initially, though his tone in this latest story is a lot more remorseful.
People with anger issues do end up blacking out and losing control of their actions. If Green is having moments like that on an NBA court, a suspension is necessary. If you don’t want to term it as a suspension, you can call it forced time off to get himself healthy. If he can’t manage his outbursts, he will put himself and other players in danger.
Everything looks encouraging right now with how the Warriors and Green are approaching this incident, but change is a long process, and Green will likely not play another game in 2023.
Draymond Green Reveals What Stephen Curry Said To Him After His Suspension
More than anyone in the world, Draymond Green getting suspended hurts Stephen Curry the most. Green revealed that Curry told him that he needs him on the court and that the team as a whole needs him.
“Steph just said to me, ‘Listen, you’re going to do what you do because that’s your role. But we need your performance. But I’m not going to tell you how to be you because I can’t do that. I’m not going to tell you to change. Only going to tell you, whatever you have to do, we need you on the court. I need you on the court.’ I could appreciate that because I’m never going to go to Steph and say, ‘Hey, man, we need you to stop shooting.'”
Green is getting the support he needs right now, with everyone in the Warriors organization coming out and expressing their desire to help Green get his mind right before returning to the court.
All these members of the organization have also justified a lot of his aggressive actions over the last year, so they should also look inward and realize that the situation has spiraled out of their control due to their inaction in the past.
Bygones are bygones, so all everyone wants to see now is Green get right and be able to return to the court and help the Warriors make the playoffs in a very tough season so far.
