Coventry pegged back by Southampton in draw

Former Sky Blues loanee Adam Armstrong had the first chance of the game, cutting in from the right before shooting straight at City goalkeeper Bradley Collins.

And Armstrong went close again later in the first half after controlling Ryan Manning’s cross from the left at the back post before firing an effort narrowly over the crossbar.

At the other end, the Sky Blues spurned a glorious chance to take the lead as Gavin Bazunu kept out Ellis Simms when one-on-one from a tight angle after excellent play from Tatsuhiro Sakamoto.

After the interval, the home side missed another golden chance to break the deadlock as Callum O’Hare’s first time shot hit the crossbar from Milan van Ewijk’s pass.

The Sky Blues eventually took the lead five minutes into the second period when Wright kept his cool to fire home past Bazunu from 10-yards out from O’Hare’s through ball.

However, Saints equalised on 67 minutes as Edozie produced a clinical finish into the bottom left corner from Armstrong’s clever flick-on at the near post.

Coventry are next in action away at Leeds United on Saturday, December 16 with kick-off at 3pm at Elland Road.
