Crystal Palace release Marc Guehi update after Newcastle United make fourth £65m approach
Crystal Palace have assigned Marc Guehi the No.6 jersey ahead of the Premier League campaign amid interest from Newcastle United.
The Daily Mail claim Toon chiefs tabled a fourth approach for the England international earlier today. Previous bids – the highest understood to be worth around £60million – were swiftly rejected.
Despite the ongoing negotiations, Palace have confirmed he is set to keep his No.6 shirt – for now. That number at Newcastle is currently occupied by captain Jamaal Lascelles.
However, Palace chief Steve Parish hinted at a deal being possible when grilled by the media in midweek. Eddie Howe stayed coy about Guehi this morning ahead of the Premier League opener – insisting Newcastle will not overpay the odds.
“We have done this many times in my time here, especially early on where there was very much a ‘Newcastle tax’ on any deal where when we would ring up, the price would double. So many times we were (saying), ‘No, that’s not for us, we’re not going to go down that road where we feel we’re over-paying for players’.
