Jacob Widell Zetterstrom to Derby County transfer – medical claim, Djurgardens replacement

Djurgardens have lined up a replacement as they prepare to bid farewell to Derby County target Jacob Widell Zetterstrom this month.

The Swedish side, who are playing Finnish side Ilves in a Europa Conference League qualifier this week, sit second in the Allsvenskan after 17 matches – the Swedish season begins in April and concludes in November.

Widell Zetterstrom has played all 24 matches, in league and cup, for Djurgardens this season so far but is the subject of interest from the Rams, who parted with last year’s number one Joe Wildsmith at the end of last season and are in the market for a new first choice stopper to compete with Josh Vickers.

Reports in Sweden claim that Jacob Rinne has been identified as Widell Zetterstrom’s successor, after he left Saudi Pro League side Al Fateh. While Rinne, a former Swedish international, hasn’t yet signed on the dotted line, Fotbolldirekt claim he is expected to imminently.

That’d free up Widell Zetterstrom to head to England – although the goalkeeper himself has now indicated that he has been in the East Midlands already to undergo a medical and is awaiting further instruction: “I don’t really know yet what applies. I was there for a medical examination. Most people know that. I don’t know what happens next.”
