Nottingham Forest injury state of play ahead of the giants clash

Nottingham Forest will hope to build on their battling point at Molineux when they are back in action at the City Ground this week.

Harry Toffolo’s goal helped the Reds to a 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday. It brought an end to a four-match losing streak and eased a little of the pressure on head coach Steve Cooper.

Forest will hope to prove they have turned a corner when they host Tottenham Hotspur on Friday night. Ahead of that clash Trentside, we take a look at Forest’s injury state of play.

What we know: The defender was forced off in the 77th minute against Wolves. He had picked up a knock and hobbled off the pitch after receiving treatment.

What we know: After being recalled to the starting line-up against Everton earlier this month, the right-back then missed the games against Fulham and Wolves. It is unknown whether he could be in contention to face Spurs.

What has been said: “Serge missed the (Fulham) game through injury,” Cooper said prior to the trip to the West Midlands. “He will be out for a couple of weeks with a calf strain.”

What we know: In a big blow for the Reds, the striker faces a significant spell on the sidelines after undergoing groin surgery. Forest hope that the decision for Awoniyi to go under the knife can help resolve the problem which had ruled him out of action previously, with the front man having aggravated the issue while on duty with Nigeria.

What has been said: “It’s bad news on Taiwo, he’s had to have surgery and is going to be out for months,” Cooper recently said. “It’s a difficult moment for him, and for us.

“We’ll support him and try to get him back as quick and as fit as he can be. It’s a really unfortunate situation for him.

“Firstly, it’s a blow for him. He’s become an important player for us with the goals he’s scored and the goals he will score for us. But he’s such a good guy and a good professional who is desperate to do well, so to get an injury like this is harsh on him.

“We’ve got to support him through the process of coming back stronger. He’s done that once before here and I’m sure he will give everything again, like he did last time. You think about how well he did when he returned last season, I’m sure that’s given him a good reference point to come back to.
