Hull City transfer target explains decision to return to former club after Championship departure

Okay Yokuslu admits the chance to play for his former club and in Europe was an opportunity too good to turn down after opting to rejoin his former club Trabzonspor in a deal worth just over £1.4m.

Hull City were keen on signing the West Brom midfielder and held talks over signing the Turkish international after it emerged that the Baggies had sanctioned his departure.

Yokuslu played 82 times for the former Super Lig champions before moving to Spanish side Celta Vigo and then on to the Hawthorns where he made 87 appearances in his two seasons in the Black Country.

Owner Acun Ilicali said last month during City’s pre-season training camp in Istanbul that he hoped the 30-year-old would join the Tigers. But instead, the experienced international has opted to return to Trabzon where he will link up with Ozan Tufan, who left the MKM Stadium last month.

“I am very happy right now. I am very happy to be part of this team again,” he said after penning a three-year plus 12-month option deal with the Turkish Super Lig side who are on course to qualify for the next stage of Europa League qualifiers. “The coach and I knew each other, we had a few conversations on the phone. I hope everything will be as we want.”

“I missed the stadium and the atmosphere in Trabzon the most. We have a strong squad. I think this is a team that can achieve success in the league and in Europe if everything goes well. I hope I can contribute to that.
