Amy Grant Reveals Her Creative Process: ‘Beautiful Purpose’

In a past interview, Christian artist Amy Grant reflected on her album “How Mercy Looks From Here,” released in 2013.

“This is about songs that have been so instrumental in helping me frame life changing events… in a way that I see the purpose of it, the beautiful purpose that’s brought meaning to things that I thought were going to take me over,” she shared in the interview.

The album includes other artists such as James Taylor, Carole King, Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill, Will Hoge and Eric Paslay.

“I loved every day at work,” Amy said regarding the recording process. “I would come home and I felt like I was levitating.  I would tell my husband, ‘I’ve just missed this so much, I’ve missed pouring all my time and energy into creativity because it makes me feel like a kid again.’”

That was ten years ago. This March, Amy released one of her her first tracks since then, titled “Trees We’ll Never See.”

The Gospel Music Association shared a recent interview with Amy Grant.

“So much creativity has been put on hold in my life, for all kinds of reasons. Last summer I was asked to sing on a new Cory Asbury song yet to be released. This might be one of the best songs I have heard in a long time,” she shared.

“I was so glad they waited for me to heal up and get back to the studio,” the singer said, reflecting on her recent health issues.

“Inspired by Cory’s beautiful song, Marshall Altman and I started talking about songs that we’ve written recently that affected us. I played him one of mine. He played me one of his. His song was ‘Trees We’ll Never See.’ I loved it immediately and asked him if I could record it, and within two weeks, both songs were mixed & mastered!” Grant concluded.

Grant continues to create beautiful music that inspires her listeners despite recent health challenges she faced.
