West Ham United to seal signing of the summer with N’Golo Kante transfer
The Hammers are set to make a new £33million bid for the French midfielder, according to Sebastien Vidal [20 July], having already had a £25million offer rejected.
While it is understood that the 33-year-old former Chelsea star is content in Saudi Arabia [Ben Jacobs], McAvennie has urged the London club to get a deal done before the summer transfer window closes.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, he said: “Brilliant. It would be the best signing I’ve seen the club do for a while. I like him – he’s the kind of player we need. He just stops everything, it’d be great for West Ham.
“Kante for £33million? Bring him in. He’s a wonderful talent. At the Euros, he was outstanding, even despite playing in Saudi. It would be a dream for me. I’ve never seen him let down Chelsea or France. It would be the signing of the summer if we got him.”
Any team would be lucky to acquire the Frenchman’s signature this summer after impressing at Euro 2024 with France, even despite playing in the Saudi Pro League for the last year.
Some fans have raised concerns over the player’s match fitness and the speed of football in Saudi Arabia, but he more than proved himself in this summer’s tournament.
Given Edson Alvarez’s injury at the London Stadium [Knees Up Mother Brown], Kante would slot straight into Julen Lopetegui’s starting XI next season and could indeed be the signing of the summer.
