Coventry City receive €3 million from Sporting as….

Coventry City have received €3 million (£2.5m) from Sporting Clube de Portugal to reduce the size of their sell-on clause for Viktor Gyokeres.

According to Portuguese outlet Record, a fee has been paid to give Sporting a greater share of the future sale of the striker.

Gyokeres signed for Lisbon last summer in a deal worth a reported £16.8 million, which also included a sell-on clause worth 15 per cent.

This meant that the Sky Blues would be entitled to 15 per cent of any future fee agreed by Sporting in a sale for the striker.

The Swede enjoyed a massively successful first season with his new club, which has led to speculation over his future in Portugal.

Coventry have received a fee from Sporting worth £2.5 million which has reduced the size of this sell-on clause to 10 per cent.

Sporting have been able to do this as part of an agreement with the Championship side, initially paying €2 (£1.7) million, with a further €1 million (£840,000) being paid due to a performance-based clause.

Gyokeres was previously linked with a move away from Sporting earlier this year, with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea reportedly interested.
