Brighton to receive transfer kickback – resale % agreement pays off

Leo Østigård hasn’t quite made too much of an impact at Napoli but the club seem set to earn a capital profit from his sale.

 

The defender’s exit from the former Italian champions could also financially help Brighton & Hove Albion.

Gianluca di Marzio recently reported that the Norwegian centre-back is nearing a move to Ligue 1 side Rennes.

The move would cost Rennes a fee of €7m, with the player having opened up to the possibility of a switch to Julien Stephan’s side.

CalcioNapoli24 go beyond this, as they look at the financial specifics of the move. They mention that Napoli will pocket a capital gain from the exit, as they had signed Østigård for €5m plus bonuses from Brighton in 2022.

He had signed a contract till the summer of 2026, meaning that 70% of his contract has been written off and his value in the Napoli balance sheets is €1.5m.

But Brighton had a 20% resale clause in the deal and they would, as a result, earn €1.4m from the total €7m figure.

As a result, Napoli will earn €4.1m from the exit after Brighton’s resale share and Østigård’s value in the current deal.
