Tom Cannon has finally makes his debut for leicester city

It was the transfer saga that seemed to last all summer. The number one player on Preston North End’s shopping list was Tom Cannon. The striker had excelled on loan last season, and North End were keen to bring him back.

Cannon was a joy to watch last season, with his confidence growing each and every game. He ended with eight goals to his name

Another loan deal would have been ideal, but once it became clear Everton might be willing to sell the 20-year-old Preston pulled out all the stops to bring him in on a permanent deal. The trouble was that many other club’s had noticed Cannon’s impressive loan spell at Deepdale, and they were lining up a deal as well.

Sunderland, Birmingham City, Norwich City and Middlesbrough were all linked with Cannon, but it was Leicester City who finally secured his signing on deadline day.

The fee was thought to be £7.5 million, a fee Preston could only dream of being able to spend you’d think, however Peter Ridsdale did reveal we had a significant bid accepted by Everton that would have quadrupled our previous transfer record.

What made it even more frustrating was the fact Cannon was pictured attending a pre-season game with Aberdeen even stopping with fans to have their picture taken with him.

You can understand why Cannon chose to make the move to Leicester City. We’re only in December but you’d feel as if they are already certain to go back up to the Premier League. It hasn’t been a smooth first few months with The Foxes though with Cannon having been out with a stress fracture in his back.

On Saturday he finally made his debut, in front of the home fans coming on for half an hour with Leicester already 4-0 up against Ryan Lowe’s former employers Plymouth Argyle.

Former North End loanee Stephy Mavididi had scored two of those goals, and along with him, Cannon also has Patson Daka, Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho to compete with.

He may have to settle for a place on the bench for some time, but he would much rather that than playing up front for a Preston side completely void of any creativity at the moment.
