I’ve more to sing” despite the setback says -Ann Wilson

After taking a step away from the road in May, Ann Wilson has announced that she has been undergoing treatment for cancer.

Wilson is best known for being the vocalist behind the band Heart, where she created hits such as ‘Barracuda’ and ‘Crazy in You’ in the 1970s. While she had plans to tour both Europe and the US, she admitted to still being on the mend from a major health procedure.

In a written statement, Wilson said that she will be undergoing chemotherapy in the near future, saying, “I underwent an operation to remove something that, as it turns out, was cancerous. The operation was successful & I’m feeling great, but my doctors are now advising me to undergo a course of preventive chemotherapy & I’ve decided to do it.”

The ‘Alone’ singer also said that all doctors had advised her to stay off the road for the time being, explaining, “My doctors are instructing me to take the rest of the year away from the stage in order to fully recover. To the ticket buyers, I really do wish we could do these gigs. Please know that I absolutely plan to be back on stage in 2025.”

The first cancellations began in May, when Wilson was forced off the road for what was then called a “time-sensitive but routine medical procedure.” While the group had planned to take their tour to the US, there has been no word on when the European dates will be made up.

Despite the setback, Wilson claims that it will not hinder her performance, saying, “This is merely a pause. I’ve much more to sing.”

Together with her sister Nancy, Ann had started Heart in the 1970s, serving as the vocalist and flautist behind albums such as Dreamboat Annie and Dog and Butterfly. After soaring throughout the decade, they re-emerged in the 1980s with music videos for songs such as ‘What About Love’ and ‘All I Want To Do Is Make Love To You’.

Though Ann had kept to her solo career, this tour was intended to be the first time that the sisters had reunited for a tour in five years, with Cheap Trick and Squeeze serving as support acts. Up until then, their most recent appearance was on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where Ann guested to sing the song ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ for the solar eclipse taking place on April 8th.
