Hamilton’s interest in MotoGP team sparks rider excitement

These rumours started to swirl after Hamilton’s agent, Marc Hynes, was observed discussing with team proprietor and boss Nadia Padovani at the recent MotoGP event in Assen.

“If it’s true, it’s positive for our sport,” remarked Gresini rider Marc Marquez, a celebrated MotoGP world champion, before the upcoming race in Germany.

“Even if it isn’t true, it’s still positive because we need people talking about this sport,” the Spaniard continued. “Maybe I’ll buy a Formula 1 team,” Marquez quipped.

“No, I don’t have enough cash.”

Jorge Martin, the current championship frontrunner and a factory Ducati rider, concurred that Hamilton’s potential ownership signifies the sport’s expansion.

“If someone like Hamilton, who is an icon, wants to buy a MotoGP team, it is because something is changing and that seems very good to me,” he noted.

However, when directly questioned at Silverstone about his interest in acquiring Gresini, the 39-year-old Hamilton, who is set to join Ferrari next year, remained evasive.

“I’ve always loved MotoGP,” he confessed. “I’m interested in the potential growth of the sport, but I haven’t looked that far into it just yet. But anything’s possible.”

Hamilton, who already owns the Extreme E team X44 and was revealed in 2022 as part of a consortium that purchased the NFL’s Denver Broncos, spoke ahead of the British GP.

“I’m definitely interested in equity, and already with the Broncos, it was already a first step in team ownership.”

“And so, yeah, I think over the next five to ten years, there’ll hopefully be more. We’ll see where.”
