International striker now expected to join League One club after Wrexham speculation

Wrexham have secured a first signing of the summer but Phil Parkinson will be keen to add more new faces to his squad in the coming weeks.

More than two months on from Wrexham securing promotion to League One, the first signing of the summer is now on board.

Fans had been hoping to see Arthur Okonkwo return to the club after a superb loan spell at the STōK Cae Ras last season.

Wrexham have now managed to pull off a major coup, signing Okonkwo on a permanent basis after leaving Arsenal.

The talented goalkeeper has committed his future to Wrexham and marks an enormous addition as Wrexham’s first signing of the window.

Phil Parkinson certainly needs more signings but one rumoured target may end up signing for another League One club.

Exeter City want Wrexham target Josh Magennis

One of the first names linked with a move Wrexham this summer was Josh Magennis.

Speculation in May suggested that Wrexham had made moves for three players released by Wigan Athletic this summer.

Magennis was one of them, alongside left back Tom Pearce and fellow forward Stephen Humphrys.

Parkinson worked with Magennis at Bolton Wanderers and was seemingly keen on a reunion despite a mixed history together.

The rumours of those players joining Wrexham have slowed down in recent weeks and Magennis is now attracting interest from elsewhere.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon reports that Exeter City are now keen on Magennis – and are ‘expected’ to strike a deal.

The Grecians will be coming up against Wrexham in League One this coming season and are looking to secure Magennis to bolster their attacking options.

Northern Ireland international Magennis scored just five League One goals last season but the 33-year-old is now expected to remain in the third tier with Exeter.

A move to Wrexham now looks unlikely – and one recent contract decision could explain why he isn’t heading to Wales.
