The news was delivered to PGA Tour members via a memo, which read: “An additional sponsor exemption will be created to recognise Tiger Woods in his own category as a player who has reached an exceptional lifetime achievement threshold of 80-plus career wins.”

Woods has a won a total of 82 PGA Tour titles along with 15 major championships.

He is tied for Sam Snead for most overall Tour victories. Only Jack Nicklaus has won more major championships (18).

Woods’ career looked over after he crashed his luxury SUV in the Los Angeles Hills in February 2021.

He suffered traumatic injuries to his right leg and later revealed that doctors told him there was a 50 per cent chance his leg would be amputated.
