A schoolboy killed in a West Midlands hit and run has been named. Keaton Slater, 12, died in Coventry yesterday (June 14) after being hit by a BMW.

The car fled the scene on Radford Road and was later seized by police. A hunt for those in the vehicle is ongoing reports CoventryLive.

The youngster was said to be crossing the road near an Aldi supermarket when hit by a BMW at around 4.30pm. Paramedics attended, but Keaton was critically injured and died at the scene.

He has been remembered for being an avid supporter of Coventry City FC and was described as being the ‘light and soul.’ Funds are now being raised to support his loved ones as they come to terms with his death.

Organiser John McDevitt said: “No parent should ever have to deal with the trauma of losing a child so young. His family has been told about the JustGiving page and is very grateful that it is being done as they try and deal with what has happened.”

Mr McDevitt added: “It will help the family with funeral expenses and any other living costs giving them time to begin to process and mourn the loss of their son and brother without having the extra burden of worrying about paying for a funeral and going to work.”

Detectives have appealed for those who witnessed or have footage of the incident to get in touch with West Midlands Police on 101. Information can also be provided to Crimestoppers.

Today, Sergeant Rich Evans urged those involved in the fatal collision to ‘do the right thing’ and come forward. No arrests have yet been made, West Midlands Police said.
