West Brom want to seal Ian Poveda transfer after Leeds United development

Ian Poveda is attracting interest from Cardiff City, Luton Town and West Brom after his Leeds United exit was confirmed, according to Darren Witcoop.

The Mirror journalist reported via X [8 June] that Sheffield Wednesday want to sign the winger on a permanent deal following a six-month loan spell, though the Championship trio have now joined the race.

Leeds confirmed [7 June] that the 24-year-old will leave Elland Road once his contract expires at the end of the month, having only made 30 appearances since joining in 2020.

Ian Poveda set for Championship move after Leeds United contract ends
Poveda never really settled down in Yorkshire after his move from Manchester City in 2020, being sent out on loan to Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool and Sheffield Wednesday.

The young winger, undoubtedly, possesses a lot of talent and could be a star in the Championship for any one of the aforementioned teams.

He did only make nine Championship starts for the Owls during his loan spell, having sustained an injury at the start of April, which saw him miss the rest of the season, but it was enough to impress Danny Rohl.

Though he only claimed one assist during his loan spell, Poveda’s impact from the bench was extremely useful as Wednesday picked up several points in the final few games and avoided a drop to League One.

Ian Poveda is now a free agent after leaving Leeds and is not short of interest. Sheffield Wednesday want the Colombian winger full-time after his loan spell while Cardiff, Luton and West Brom among the clubs keen. #lufc #ccfc #swfc #ltfc #wba

The German seemingly saw something in the player that Daniel Farke struggled to get out of him and wants Poveda back on a permanent deal, which would be a positive ending for all parties involved.

Of course, the Whites will have wanted to make a profit from the winger once he departed Elland Road, but having run down his contract after making little impact at the club, that fee probably would not have been significant anyway.
