Everton make disgraceful decision on Manchester City amid Premier League chaos
Everton have made a bizarre decision to back Manchester City in their unprecedented proposed legal case against the Premier League.
City are making a motion against the division’s organisers and their rules regarding sponsorship from companies involved with club owners.
It is unclear as to how many different clubs this could affect moving forward but it has caused unrest within the league.
Journalist Christian Smith has suggested (5 June) that Everton, Newcastle United and Chelsea have shown support for City and their case.
Given that the Toffees are not currently sponsored by a company owned by Farhad Moshiri, this is a strange decision.
In the case of the Citizens, there is an existing link between their owners and their sponsor Etihad Airways, which the Premier League have looked to regulate.
The organisation are looking to make these deals fair so they fit in line with the rest of the teams but Man City believe that this is unfair.

Matt Lawton from The Times has reported (4 June) that City are taking legal action against the Premier League with a hearing due to take place on 10 June.
This has caused “civil war” between clubs that is only going to damage club relations with the organisation moving forward.
The question remains in all of this: why are Everton backing Manchester City in this legal battle?
Moshiri has had very public issues with finances at Goodison Park this season which have led to various and frustrating punishments.
Sean Dyche and his side’s performance on the pitch to avoid relegation has papered over the cracks and brushed a lot of issues under the carpet.
Now the Toffees’ fans are questioning the owner as he backs City in a case where they don’t seek to gain if the Premier League lose the legal battle.
Everton aren’t sponsored, on their shirt at least, by a company owned by Moshiri so why would he back a motion to allow inflated deals?
This may be a way to get back at the Premier League after a year of charges, punishments and point deductions.
Whether this is the case or not, backing Manchester City in a case against the league is a bizarre and disgraceful move by the Everton hierarchy.
