Sports Business: Patrick Mahomes Is Adhering To Kobe Bryant’s Model Of Success

The three-time Super Bowl MVP, Patrick Mahomes, is having a big influence both on and off the field.

Mahomes, who is only 28 years old, has the business sense and strategic planning to become the youngest athlete to become a billionaire. Mahomes has made investments in a number of noteworthy businesses, as PlayersTV detailed. These include the Miami Pickleball Club (MLP), Sporting Kansas City (MLS), Kansas City Royals (MLB), and KMO Burgers, a franchisee of Whataburger.

Among NFL players, only Tom Brady (retired in 2022) has earned more endorsement deals than Mahomes, who is believed to have earned $25 million, according to Forbes. The quarterback has partnered with over 15 brands to promote a wide range of products, including Oakley, Adidas, State Farm, Subway, Head & Shoulders, and Hy-Vee. His endorsement portfolio demonstrates his broad appeal and marketability.

Mahomes’ latest endeavors include partnerships in the competitive sports drink market. In joining forces with Prime, Mahomes finds himself pitted against Gatorade, a PepsiCo subsidiary.

Yet, Mahomes’ involvement with Prime isn’t his only venture in the crowded drink industry; his move into the coffee industry may prove pivotal in his quest to become the youngest athlete billionaire.

Patrick Mahomes Following Kobe Bryant’s Blueprint

Mahomes has joined forces with industry veteran Michael Fedele as the lead investor in Throne SPORT COFFEE, a venture that could disrupt the vast coffee market. Fedele’s investment strategy with Patrick Mahomes in Throne SPORT COFFEE bears a striking resemblance to his previous collaboration with the late Kobe Bryant and BodyArmor. Fedele’s approach with Bryant and BodyArmor yielded a substantial return on investment. As reported by Forbes, Bryant’s $6 million investment in BodyArmor translated to an estimated $400 million payout when Coca-Cola acquired the company for $5.6 billion in 2021.
