West Bromwich Albion are reportedly making Darnell Furlong available for transfer this summer, with the full-back out of contract at the end of the coming season.

The Baggies missed out on promotion after they were beaten by Southampton in the play-off semi-finals, and according to journalist Alan Nixon, they will now sell the full-back in order to raise funds, especially as it is their last chance to do so, with just one year left on his contract at The Hawthorns.

Albion could demand a fee of around £2 million for his services. The 28-year-old joined West Brom from Queens Park Rangers in 2019, and he has been a regular for the club ever since, going on to make over 200 appearances.

He initially signed on a four-year deal, and has gone on to become a key player for Albion during his time at the club, particularly in the second tier.

Furlong starred for Albion during their promotion push this season, with head coach Carlos Corberan describing him as one of the best right-backs in the Championship, but he looks set to end his stay with the club, with Premier League and Championship clubs now “alerted” to his availability.

FLW’s West Brom fan pundit, Matt Smith, believes that the club should be seeking more than the aforementioned price tag, but isn’t sure that the club will sell him at all, given that there is work to do in addressing other areas of the squad.

He said: “I think it’s interesting to note that Furlong has one year left on his deal; however, maybe you could ask for a little more than £2 million.

“Even though I’m sure we would take the cash, I just can’t see Albion letting go and then needing to sign two full-backs this summer.

“They’ll probably sell him on” – Agent makes Mikey Johnston, Celtic claim as West Brom circle
The winger enjoyed a highly impressive loan spell with the Baggies last season, and now returns to his parent club Celtic.

Should Furlong leave the club in the coming weeks, West Brom would be left without a recognised senior right-back to take his place, as Smith alludes to.

Furlong would be a huge loss in that sense, and if there is significant interest in him, the Baggies should try to secure the maximum possible fee for his services, but keeping an experienced figure who has been around the club for some time now may be the most optimal option.

However, Albion will not just be concerned about potential player departures like Furling, amid reports that Leicester City have identified Corberan as a potential replacement for Enzo Maresca should he leave for Chelsea, and the Spaniard’s exit would be the biggest blow for the club this summer above all else.

Either way, there will be somewhat of a rebuild undertaken for Albion, and it’s imperative to keep as many key pieces of this season’s team as possible.
