BREAKING NEWS: Championship Rivals in Race for West Bromwich Star

West Bromwich Albion Man Wanted By Championship Rivals

West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan is a candidate to replace Vincent Kompany at Burnley, according to Football Insider.

The Clarets will be playing Championship football next season following their relegation from the Premier League. Despite that, Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich opted to prise Kompany away from Turf Moor, leaving the club in search for a new head coach.

As one of the favourites to secure promotion next season, Burnley will be looking to bring the right man in to replace the outgoing Belgian. After enjoying an excellent season in the West Midlands, Corberan is said to have emerged as an option.

The Spaniard guided the Baggies into the play-offs with a fifth-placed finish. However, they fell at the semi-final stage with a 3-1 aggregate defeat against eventual winners Southampton.

Due to off-field antics, the season is still widely considered a success. As a result, Corberan has started to appear on the radar of other potential suitors. Championship winners Leicester City are reportedly keen as current boss Enzo Maresca edging closer to a move to Chelsea.

It appears as if Burnley have also entered the race, with former Everton and Aston Villa chief Keith Wyness claiming that the Lancashire outfit are keeping tabs on the 41-year-old, whilst also revealing the figure that Bayern will pay for Kompany’s services:

“The number I’ve heard is around £10million, which is a very good compensation number for Kompany,” he told Football Insider.

“Certainly, that deal has shocked a lot of people. It’s a good payout, and together with the parachute payment – Burnley should be very competitive.

“They’ve got experience at coming back up and I’d be very surprised if them and Leeds aren’t the bookies’ favourites.

“I’ve heard that Carlos Corberan could be one of the potential candidates. He came close in the playoffs with West Brom.

“I think with the resources Burnley could have, hiring him could be enough to get them back up into the Premier League.

Corberan has proven himself to be a very astute manager and it is no surprise to see him being targeted by other clubs. However, West Brom are ambitious whilst their financial issues have eased following February’s takeover. As a result, remaining at the Hawthorns could be the right thing to do.

The Spaniard performed wonders during his previous stint with Huddersfield Town and has arguably over-achieved with the Baggies. He was rewarded with a new contract last year which runs until 2027. Ambition could be the driver here though. Burnley will be favourites for promotion whereas Leicester will play in the Premier League. This could be a factor in any decision.
